چکیده

The design of European two–axle freight wagons can be traced back to the 1890’es. It has been and still is widely used in Europe because it is simple, rugged and cheap in price and maintenance. The internationally approved suspension for two–axle freight wagons in Europe is known as the UIC standard suspension (see Fig. 1). Each wagon has four of these suspensions. They consist of a leaf spring and UIC links. The leaf spring rests on the axle box and provides the vertical suspension. Dissipative dry friction forces are generated for an operating leaf spring because the leafs will slide against each other. The car body is connected with the leaf spring through the UIC links that works as a pendular suspension with friction. This yields the necessary stiffness and damping for the horizontal motion. The only damping mechanism in the UIC suspension is dry friction. The axle guidance (see Fig. 1) works as motion delimiters. It simply restricts the relative motion between the wheelset and the car body by an end stop, if the translation or yaw motion of the wheelset becomes sufficiently large. This paper deals with the modelling and analysis of the dynamics of two–axle freight wagons. Central to this is the mathematical modelling of the nonsmooth interacting forces determining the motion of the vehicle. The model is used to examine the dynamics of two–axle freight wagons in order to clarify and understand the poor running properties that many freight wagons exhibit at moderate speeds.

A Dynamic Model for Evaluating the Utility of Railway Transit Corridors; a Case study of Bandar Abbas-Sarakhs Corridor

Currently, road transportation is the main mode of freight transit in Iran and about 90% of freight transit is done through this mode of transportation which is not in line with the transportation policies that based on them 70% of the freight transit should be done through road transportation and 30% of the freight transit should be done through rail transportation. However, Iran's railway net...

Comparison of the Economic Profitability of a Conventional Freight-Dedicated Railway Corridor and a Heavy Load Freight Corridor

By using mathematical models, this paper will compare the economic profitability of a heavy load freight corridor (30 t per axle) with a conventional freight-dedicated railway corridor (22.5 t per axle). This comparison concerns the construction and operation of a new, single-track of normal gauge, exclusively for freight traffic, and takes into account various demand values of freight volume (...

Iranian Railway System Performance Analysis Using Computer Simulation and Data Envelopment Analysis Methods

In this paper, a discrete event simulation model of Iranian railway system is used for analyzing performance of the system in freight sector. The model analysis shows more sensitivity of the system on loading and unloading facilities than on number of wagons and locomotives. System optimization through simulation optimization technique, shows that more than 4% of all wagons available in the n...

Investigation of sloshing coefficient by Arbitrary Lagrange -Euler methods in partially filled tankers

Regarding increasing importance of tank wagons and efficiency in fluids transportation, their usage is increasing every day. Thus paying attention to their designs just as dynamic analysis of wagons during travelling time is vitally important. In this task, sloshing coefficient as prominent parameter in tank wagons designing has been investigated. To ease of efficient design, theses parameters ...

A mathematical model for hazmat and freight transportation in railway networks

In this paper, we develop a freight transportation model for railway network considering hazmat transportation issue. In the transportation system considered, different customers can request for carrying hazmat and non- hazmat boxes. It is assumed that the sequence of the trains in the network is known. The objective is assigning the non-hazmat boxes and hazmat boxes to wagons of the trains so ...
